Case Study: Smart TV Deployment Pejabat Sukan UM | ANZ

Executive Summary: The Pejabat Sukan (Sports Office) at University Malaya (UM) serves as the nerve center for campus athletic activities, tournament planning, and performance analysis. To modernize their operations, the department required a visual display upgrade capable of not only digital signage but also live sports broadcasting and tactical match review. ANZ Worldwide was commissioned to deliver and install high-specification Android Smart TVs. This dual-unit deployment provides the Sports Office with a versatile multimedia hub, enabling staff to switch seamlessly between administrative dashboards and live match "watch parties" or analysis sessions.

The Context: Modernizing the Sports Office

University Malaya's Sports Office manages a high volume of athletic events, from inter-varsity tournaments to internal campus leagues. Previously, the administrative space lacked a centralized, large-format display system. Staff relied on small laptop screens to review match footage, check tournament schedules, or monitor live sports events relevant to the university teams.

The "Small Screen" Limitation: Tactical analysis and group reviews were inefficient. Gathering a team around a 15-inch laptop monitor to analyze gameplay or discuss logistics was not conducive to collaboration.

The Need for Flexibility: Unlike a standard corporate lobby that only needs a looping video, a Sports Office is dynamic. They need access to streaming apps, YouTube (for replays), IPTV services, and casting capabilities from mobile devices. Standard proprietary digital signage would have been too restrictive; they needed the open ecosystem of Android TV.

Technical Architecture & Strategy

ANZ Worldwide recommended and deployed a solution centered around flexibility and connectivity. The core components included:

1. Android Smart TV Ecosystem

We selected large-format Android TVs for this deployment. The Android operating system was crucial because it allows the Sports Office to download specific apps required for their operations—whether that be broadcast streaming tools, sports news aggregators, or video analysis players. This "app-centric" architecture ensures the hardware remains relevant as software evolves.

2. High-Performance Connectivity

Streaming 4K sports content requires significant bandwidth. We integrated the displays into the university's Gigabit LAN via Ethernet to ensure buffer-free playback during live matches. Additionally, the TVs support dual-band Wi-Fi (5GHz) for wireless casting, allowing coaches to quickly "cast" tactical diagrams or video clips from their tablets directly to the big screen during meetings.

3. Structural Integrity

Given the location is a "Smart Office" environment with high footfall, safety was a priority. We utilized reinforced wall mounting systems with tilt capability. This allows the screens to be angled specifically to reduce glare from overhead office lighting, ensuring clear visibility of scoreboards and fine details in match footage.

Implementation Roadmap

The project was executed rapidly to minimize disruption to the Pejabat Sukan's daily operations:

Phase 1: Pre-Deployment Staging

Before delivery, ANZ engineers performed a "Dead on Arrival" (DOA) check and pre-configured the Android OS. We updated firmware to the latest security patch and pre-installed essential apps requested by the client, ensuring the units were "plug-and-play" upon arrival.

Phase 2: Precision Installation

Upon arrival at the Sports Office, our team identified the optimal wall segments for viewing angles. We used laser levels to ensure perfect alignment of the dual screens. Cables were routed through discrete trunking to maintain the professional look of the office. Phase 3: User Handover

The final step was verifying the "Smart" features. We tested the casting latency, audio output for match commentary, and internet connectivity. We then handed over the remote controls and provided a quick tutorial to the officers on how to switch between HDMI inputs (for laptops) and Android Apps (for streaming).
